Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, is a concentrated fibrin mix containing blood platelets. Platelets are responsible for clotting when an injury occurs. However, platelets also contain certain growth factors that help the body speed up the process of tissue regeneration. This is why PRP is used to treat injuries. It also helps to jumpstart the growth of healthy skin tissue. A PRP facelift is one of the most popular new treatments for improving the overall appearance of facial skin. We highly recommend this procedure for those experiencing dull, brittle skin, skin discolorations and an increase in dynamic wrinkling.
Is It a True Facelift?
Actually, the procedure isn’t a facelift at all. It’s just an industry-related term used to describe the injection of PRP and dermal fillers into the face.
A traditional facelift involves the repositioning of facial skin. A PRP facelift treatment uses the fibrin mix to stimulate new tissue growth. Dead and damaged skin cells are eventually replaced by new cells that are healthier. Over time, collagen production also increases, the result being skin that is more taut and supple.
How It Works
A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient. The blood is spun in a centrifuge at a prescribed speed. The platelets and some of the plasma become separated from the red cells.
This fibrin gel is then injected beneath the skin along with hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers. The body responds as though an injury has occurred. Over the next few weeks, the skin becomes suppler, and dynamic wrinkles become far less noticeable.
There is no downtime after a PRP facelift treatment. The injection sites may bruise slightly and become reddened, but this is temporary. Abstaining from certain medications for several days prior to treatment is recommended to aid in healing. General anesthesia is not required.
We will first schedule a consultation with the client and outline the entire procedure. It’s important for us to examine the face closely and determine the proper injection sites. We also discuss the likely outcome of your PRP facelift treatment. It is important to note that the results will vary from one individual to another.
