Menopause — the change of life
Part of the aging process in all women includes going through the change of life, menopause. Many women are concerned about the symptoms of menopause, namely hot flushes, sweats, and dryness of the vagina.
Natural and effective
Many women are interested in a natural, yet effective, way to replace hormones and treat the symptoms of menopause. Bioidentical hormones are hormones that are identical to the hormones that are made by women prior to menopause. They are extracted from a natural plant, usually soy or yam. Biochemically they are 17 beta estradiol, estrone, and estriol. They are referred to as natural hormones because the body cannot distinguish between them and the estrogen that the body makes naturally and thus they operate in the body the same as naturally made estrogen, hence the term “bio-identical”.
Bio-identical hormones are usually made in a compounding pharmacy and usually made into a cream and sometimes delivered as a cream, pellet, or patch. Levels in saliva can be tested to aid with dosage and planning.
