Lots of women go through the same process of shaving away unwanted hair, dealing with an uncomfortable rash, letting the hair grow out, and then starting the uncomfortable process all over again when the hair grows out. If you are tired of the discomfort that comes from shaving with a razor, we invite you to consider laser hair removal for unwanted hair here at the Georgia Center for Female Health.
A Convenient Way to Say Goodbye to Unwanted Hair
Energy from a laser is used to break down hair follicles that are going through an active growth phase. Something that surprises many people is that not all of the hair on your body is actively growing at the moment. This means that multiple treatment sessions need to be scheduled in order to treat as many active hair follicles as possible. Realistically, you may need to return to our office anywhere from six to ten times in order to get the best long-term results.
Treatment sessions are usually quite short. The length of time you will be in our office will be determined by the size of the area that will receive treatment. If you are just going to have the hair above your lip treated, you will likely only be here for a few minutes on each visit. If you are having hair on your legs, underarms, and bikini area treated, you may be here for up to an hour.
You will be able to enjoy semi-permanent hair removal if you opt for laser hair removal treatment. Some of our clients have never experienced hair regrowth in an area that went through the recommended amount of treatment sessions. The reason why we cannot promise complete hair removal is because hair growth is determined by many factors, including hormones. So you could have an area on your body be completely free of hair for several years. Then, if you get pregnant, you could experience some hair regrowth in the area. The great news is that the hair that grows back is likely to be lighter and more sparse than the hair growth you currently have.
Preparing for Your First Treatment
Many of our clients get the idea of having laser hair removal treatments confused with waxing treatments. This leads many to believe that they cannot shave in the weeks before their treatment session. We are happy to tell you that you absolutely can shave. This may likely bring relief to you since you now understand that you will need to visit us for multiple treatment sessions that will likely be spaced several weeks apart.
You will need to avoid removing unwanted hair by the root. This means that you should not pluck or wax unwanted hair in the weeks before your treatment. The laser breaks down the hair follicle, so it needs to be in place.
