A platelet-rich plasma facial, or a PRP facial, is becoming an increasingly popular aesthetic treatment. This treatment uses the client’s own blood as the stimulant for healthy tissue growth. No surgery is performed and very little downtime is required. The idea behind a PRP facial is that the condensed, platelet-rich plasma contains important growth factors that jumpstart the creation of healthier skin tissue.
The procedure is very simple and can be performed in the comfort of our office. If you are seeking a non-surgical alternative to addressing the problems associated with aging skin, a PRP facial procedure may be just the rejuvenating skin treatment you’ve been looking for.
How PRP Works
Blood is composed mostly of water, micronutrients, red cells, white cells, naturally-occurring antigens and platelets. Platelets aid in clotting if an injury occurs and the blood is exposed to oxygen in the atmosphere. Platelets also contain special growth factors that aid in the speedy creation of healthy tissue that replaces tissue damaged in the injury.
When a concentrated mix of platelets and plasma are reintroduced into the face, by way of injection or micro-needling, the body uses its own platelets to help create new collagen and elastin, which are the building blocks of younger, more youthful-looking skin.
What Clients Should Expect
This treatment will only be performed after we have consulted with the client and outlined the entire procedure. We also want to look closely at the facial features and listen to each client’s concerns. If we decide that a PRP facial is a suitable treatment procedure, we will schedule a treatment session.
During the actual treatment session, we draw a small amount of blood from the client. We then spin the blood down in a centrifuge. This isolates the platelet-rich plasma cells to then be introduced into the face via micro-needling.
After Treatment is Complete
There is little downtime for the client after the treatment. Normal activities can usually be resumed after 24 hours. The full effect of a PRP facial isn’t noticeable right away. In fact, it may take about two months for the complete tissue growth effect to take place because the body is slowly replacing damaged skin and producing more collagen than before.
