Recently we had the pleasure of taking care of Kimberly Petty for her seventh pregnancy which resulted in the birth of her son, Chance. Married to Charles Petty, a business and marketing consultant and trader, Kimberly is a star mother. She is one of the most naturally cheerful women that I know. She approached each visit with confidence and a smile and an air of being pleased with life. She delivered all of her children with Georgia Center for Female Health and I thought I’d catch up with her to share her story.
YOURS IS AN UNUSUAL FAMILY BY TODAY’S STANDARDS. HOW DID YOU COME TO HAVE SEVEN CHILDREN?
Well, I always wanted four children, 2 boys and 2 girls. I come from a family of 2 girls and 1 boy and I remember my brother telling me that it was lonely having no brothers. I thought about that…his children will have no uncles, only aunts. So I decided to have four, and never consciously decided to have seven. It just seemed that everytime I began to consider the idea of conception, I would already be pregnant with another blessing.
WHAT IS THE MOST REWARDING THING ABOUT A LARGE FAMILY
I love to see how their different personalities develop. I see a little of myself reflected in them, and a little of my husband, and I have great hope that they will be just a little bit better than Charles and I. It is sweet to see the way that they interact with each other. Others tell me that they always look out for each other. Despite their uncanny and unmistakable physical resemblance to each other, they are so wonderfully, different.
DO YOU HAVE HELP? HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR SANITY
At My church, they have just adopted all of us, but I don’t have much help on a day to day basis. I sell Mary K products and this helps to give me something of my own to do around other women. I am very involved with the kids activities such as volunteering and the dance studio.
PHILOSOPHY ON CHILDBIRTH
I believe that childbearing doesn’t have to be a painful, horrible experience. I believe in a drug free birth experience. The more that you educate yourself, the more empowered that you become. I believe in hypnobirthing and meditation
IT HAS BEEN A PLEASURE TAKING CARE OF YOU THROUGH SEVEN CHILDREN. WHAT IS THE REASON THAT YOU PICKED GEORGIA CENTER AND STAYED WITH US THROUGH THE YEARS.
I picked the practice out of the Aetna book, but I stayed because of you, Dr. Stewart. I just felt really good about you. You’re a very caring person and I always felt well taken care of. I never really told you that but I knew when I was in good hands. And I figured that any doctor that you associated with would also be good.
ANY ADVICE FOR OTHER WOMEN ABOUT CHILDBEARING OR CHILDREARING?
Yes, It is actually less work when you have plenty of children because they are playmates for each other. I have a girlfriend with only one child and she is tired all the time. I would also like other women to know that with faith all things are possible. You get what you focus on in life, so I choose to focus on happy deliveries and on a happy, healthy family, and that’s exactly what I have!
